Estimates for planning
The board feet, log scale values, cutting patterns, blade heights and yields shown on this site are estimates computed from the sizes you enter. A real log is not a perfect cylinder, and the calculators do not replace measuring the log, an official scaling table named in a contract, or a scaler's judgement. Do not rely on them as the sole basis for buying, selling or pricing logs and lumber.
Log rules
Doyle and International ¼ are computed from their published formulas. Scribner is computed from a formula that approximates the original Scribner diagram rule; it is not the official Scribner or Scribner Decimal C table.
Safety
Sawing logs is dangerous. Tips on this site are general information. Follow your sawmill manufacturer's instructions and the safety rules that apply where you work.
Use of the site
You may use the calculators and read the content for personal and professional purposes free of charge. You may not scrape, mirror or republish the content, or interfere with the operation of the site.
